What are Humectants Moisturizers ?
Humectants are water-based ingredients capable of absorbing moisture from the air They draw water to skin cells to hydrate the skin and bind to keep it on the skin surface. Their chemical composition allows them to attract and bind water to themselves.
Why’s that?
Humectant should be used if skincare products predominantly contain alcohol or soaps that dry up skin is a part of your skincare routine. They have a lightweight consistency. Humectants are particularly effective to moisturize the skin. They work best for dry, thick skin in climates that are very humid.

Emollients: Fills Spaces
What are Emollients Moisturizers ?
Emollients are oil-based ingredients that fill in gaps between skin cells lacking moisturizing lipids. They improve the texture and appearance of the skin making it soft and smooth. Emollients protect and hydrate the skin. They are derived from plants and minerals that contain lipids.
Why’s that?
Emollients are best suited for mature, dry, and dehydrated skin. They help in reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, or crow’s feet. They have a creamy consistency. They work best for mature skin that lacks flexibility & elasticity.
Some well-known emollients are Almond oil, Sunflower oil, Cocoa Butter, Grape Seed Oil
Occlusive: Seals Moisture
What are Occlusive Moisturizers ?
Occlusive create a protective seal around the skin preventing moisture loss. These are either wax, silicone, or oil-based. They are designed to moisturize the skin and usually recommended for the body than the face. Occlusive are heavy in nature and feel greasy when applied. They block the evaporation of water.
Why’s that?
Occlusive are effective for dehydrated skin serving as an artificial moisture barrier until the skin is able to repair itself. They work best for dry and dehydrated skin in an environment without any humidity. Occlusive is thicker in consistency.
